NYC surveillance to be increased

NYPD officials say over 100 cameras will begin monitoring cars moving through Lower Manhattan by the end of this year, the beginning phase of a London-style “ring of steel” surveillance system that would be the first of its kind in the United States.
If the current plan obtains full financing, it will eventually include a network of 3000 public and private security cameras, as well as automatic license plate readers.
