Animated Manhattan

Posted at 11:07 AM on 2-25-08 by Rob T Firefly

We’ve recently discovered “Animated Manhattan,” an ongoing series of articles by David Friedman about depictions of Manhattan in animation. From milestones like Oliver and Company, Fritz the Cat, and Madagascar to staples like Tom and Jerry, Futurama, and The Critic, to easily overlooked gems like the opening titles to Late Night with Conan O’Brien, the author delves deep into how the various artists portray the borough with varying degrees of accuracy and/or artistic success.

All in all, quite a good read.

Those of you who, for whatever reason, will end up at ShmooCon this weekend, be sure to stalk say hello to Grey Frequency, our own Shmoo superstar.

Additionally, you might like to check out Grey’s boyfriend’s talk, “How do I pwn thee? Let me count the ways.” It promises to be interesting, and not just because this editor got to draw some cartoon slides he’ll be using in his presentation.

Bad server day

Posted at 4:18 PM on 2-8-08 by Rob T Firefly

GreyApologies for the downtime earlier today.

Upon learning of the malfunction, a skilled manager and negotiator (Grey Frequency) took proper and decisive action against the responsible party (myself.) All is now well, apart from my new lack of capacity to ever sleep, close my eyes, or experience joy again.

What I’m trying to say is, don’t make Grey angry.

You wouldn’t like her when she’s angry.
