The very first Wiki-Conference NYC is happening this weekend, July 25-26. The event will be hosted at NYU’s Vanderbilt Hall by Free Culture @ NYU and Wikimedia NYC.
In addition to keynotes by Jimmy Wales and Ira Brad Matetsky, the event will feature presentations of interest to local Wikimedia, Creative Commons, and Free Culture enthusiasts. If there is a particular subject you would like to present about or see presented, suggestions for panels and presentations are still open. More info can be found on the event’s Wiki page.

A local film location scout has posted about what appear to be Manhattan’s last four public telephone booths.
The classic-style outdoor booths are all on West End Avenue, on the corners of 101st, 100th, 90th, and 66th streets. They even appear to be in good repair and working order; something which could not have been taken for granted even when phone booths were ubiquitous.
The Payphone Project also boasts a nice series of photographs of the booths.
Hypothetically speaking, if we were to set up a field trip one of these weekends to visit, use, and photograph the living heck out of these, would you be into it? Let us know; if enough of you express interest, we’ll make it happen.

Since many in our community seem to agree that there’s something to this newfangled Twitter business, we have decided to make it easier for the Twitterverse to follow the NYC2600 scene.
Check out @NYC2600 for our official mindless RSS-regurgitating bot account. Why a bot, you didn’t ask? Well, we already post everything we wish to announce via this site. This way we can sneak our posts into the microblogosphere without creating more work for us overtired admins.
Users of Twitter are also encouraged to use #nyc2600 as a hashtag in order to consolidate NYC2600-related tweets into one big happy microblogging amalgam, like so.
