Here’s a bit of trivia for local fans of Wikipedia, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Joseph Reagle presents Wikipedia 10K Redux, an archive of Wikipedia’s first 10,000 articles. (More background info on the archive here.) Three of those early articles, posted on March 7, 2001, are:
New York
Northeastern state in the [[United States]].
As of 2000, it is the third largest state in population after [[Alaska]] and [[Texas]].

New York City

It’s official: New York and Wikipedia go way back. If you’re into getting involved locally, you can check out Wikipedia Meetup NYC and Wikimedia NYC.

Have you got an electric song in your digital heart, yearning to be transduced?
Music Hack Day is a new event in town, scheduled for the weekend of February 12-13. It’s described by its organizers thusly:
It’s a full weekend of hacking in which participants will conceptualize, create and present their projects. Music + software + mobile + hardware + art + the web. Anything goes as long as it’s music related.
The event will happen at an as-yet-unrevealed location near Union Square. Registration, as either a presenter or an attendee, is free but space-limited.
