After getting in touch with some attendees who, like us, come into the city from out-of-town, we must announce that due to Hurricane Earl, we won’t be attending tomorrow’s meeting. With areas like coastal New Jersey, Connecticut, and Long Island where many of us bridge-and-tunnel types live expected to be hardest-hit by the storm, with the additional possibilities of mass-transit failure and Citigroup locking up early, we feel we’re better off not advising the trip in for the meeting. For those of you who feel you can safely get there and back again and are willing to defiantly get a meeting going regardless, best of luck! We’d love to see photos.
For the rest of us, we’ll have doing a make-up meeting next Friday, September 10th. We’ll meet up in Citigroup like always, though since we’ll probably have a smaller group things may wrap up earlier, traditions may be changed or abandoned. We’ll wing it, and we’d love to have you there winging it with us.
Who: Us, and hopefully you.
What: The NYC2600 meeting, make-up edition.
When: Friday, September 10, 5:00 PM ~ 7:00 PM?
Where: Citigroup Center, 53rd Street and Lexington Avenue
Why: To meet up, eat food, do stuff, and make up for some lost time!
See you there!

We are keeping an eye on the news regarding Hurricane Earl, which might wash out our meeting this week. If conditions turn out to be unsafe on Friday we may be compelled to declare next Friday, September 10, our meeting’s rain date. Stay tuned for updates, and use your own best judgment.

NYC2600.net admins Grey Frequency and Rob T Firefly, together with our fellow longtime NYC2600 attendee and site contributor Gonzo, will be presenting a panel on 2600 meetings at The Next HOPE. Our panel aims to discuss 2600 meetings in general; their history, their place in the hacker world over the years, the ways those interested can find local meetings or start their own, and the effect attending meetings has had on our own lives.
To prepare the best panel we can we hope to gather attendees’ stories and experiences from 2600 meetings worldwide. We’ll be chatting with those of you in NYC at our meetings, and we would also really love to hear from our friends at other meetings all over the world.
How has going to 2600 meetings affected you? Where has your meeting been, and where is it going? Have they gotten better or worse in your opinion? What are some of your favorite 2600 meeting anecdotes and stories? We’d love to hear it all. If you’re into chatting with us over email, instant messenger, phone, etc. and helping us build our presentation, please contact us and we’ll set it up!
We’d also love to get in touch with our own counterparts at other meetings. Do you run your local meeting’s website, admin your local meeting’s forum, or perform other point-of-contact duties? Let’s swap stories!
Thank you in advance for all your help!
– Gonzo, Grey, and Rob
